Sustainable Custodial Processes, Practices and Products
ARAMARK employs a number of environmentally responsible custodial management systems. Since most aspects of custodial management affect the environment, we have become adept at integrating environmental solutions into our approach. By using products that help prevent toxic pollution and waste, conserve resources and habitats, and minimize global warming and ozone depletion, we promote a healthier and cleaner environment.
ARAMARK’s approach to green cleaning involves Green Seal certified or equivalent chemicals, state-of-the art equipment, and training. We have implemented a “Touchless Cleaning” system at OSU that is not only environmentally friendly using green chemicals, but also improves employee morale by eliminating their contact with human biohazards. |

Other initiatives include:
-
We use Ecolab's Green Seal certified Oasis products in multiple buildings throughout campus and continue to implement where possible
-
We have switched from gas vehicles to electric vehicles
-
We have reduced the number of routine cleaning chemicals from seven to three using a Green Seal certified all-purpose cleaner, sanitizer, and neutral floor cleaner
-
We use portion control dispensers and Kaivac cleansing equipment with Green Seal certified products to reduce chemical use, improve resource efficiency and worker safety while reducing cost and spillage
-
We converted to a washable microfiber flat mop, eliminating the 50-pound bucket and reducing wastewater, cleaning solutions and bacteria substrate
-
We use all high-performance vacuum units that are Green Seal certified by the Carpet and Rug Institute
-
We use a polymer-based finish, which with proper maintenance, does not need seasonal stripping and reapplication. Strippers are very caustic and when mixed with old finish, form undesirable waste products. A less toxic product can be used to routinely maintain the floor.
-
Implemented a matting program for all Academic buildings to minimize the dirt entering the buildings while improving indoor air quality. |
